When Does iOS 18 Come Out?
Apple has consistently released its operating systems and updates for its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices with a specific release schedule. The company typically announces the release of iOS 17.2 and then later announces iOS 18. Here’s a breakdown of the iPhone and iPadOS operating system release cycle:
- Beta Program: Apple starts the development of the next major operating system and hardware updates as a beta program. This typically happens in the Spring or Summer of each year, usually between April and August.
- Public Release: Once the beta program is complete, Apple releases the new operating system to the public. This is usually in the Fall, but can be as early as June or as late as October.
- Major Updates: Apple often releases significant updates to the operating system, which include new features, performance improvements, and changes to existing functionality. These updates are typically announced in the Spring or Summer.
- Evening Releases: After the public release, Apple often releases the new operating system again, usually in the Fall, to take advantage of holiday sales and build anticipation for the next major update.
Recent iOS Release History:
- iOS 16.3 was released in September of 2021, marking the fourth major update of the iPhone 13 series.
- iOS 16.2 was released in August of 2021, bringing significant changes to the iPhone 13 series, including improved cameras and new features.
- iOS 16.1 was released in June of 2021, featuring updated Continuity features and new emojis.
- iOS 15.4 was released in October of 2020, marking the second major update of the iPhone 12 series.
When Does iOS 18 Come Out?
To date, Apple has not officially announced a release date for iOS 18. However, based on the company’s past release cycle, here are some predictions:
- Apple Conferences: Apple typically holds the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, where the company announces new operating system updates and previews of upcoming hardware. Based on previous years’ release cycles, iOS 18 may be announced during the WWDC in June or July.
- Beta Release: Apple may start testing and releasing iOS 18 betas in the Fall, allowing developers and the public to test the new operating system before its official release.
- Public Release: After testing and reviewing the beta release, Apple may officially release iOS 18 in the Spring or Summer, although this has been declined in recent years.
Significant Predictions:
- August or September: Based on Apple’s release cycle, we can predict that iOS 18 may be released in August or September, providing a mid-summer release schedule.
- Spring or Summer 2023: Given the company’s trend of introducing new operating systems in Spring and Summer, we can expect iOS 18 to be released in Spring or Summer 2023, providing the latest update to the iPhone lineup.
When to Expect iOS 18:
Based on Apple’s past release cycle and our predictions, here are some possible release dates for iOS 18:
- September 2023: If Apple is aiming for a mid-summer release, it’s possible that iOS 18 could be released in September 2023.
- May 2024: Another possibility is that iOS 18 could be released in May 2024, providing a late spring release schedule.
- September 2024: A more unlikely option is that iOS 18 could be released in September 2024, providing an early fall release schedule.
Keep in Mind:
- Apple Releases: Apple typically takes a few months to officially release an operating system, so we should be patient and stay tuned for any official announcements.
- Public vs. Beta: If Apple decides to release iOS 18 in August or September, it may be a beta release, which could delay the official release. If it’s released in May or September, it could be an official release.
In conclusion, while Apple has not officially announced a release date for iOS 18, based on its past release cycle, we can expect it to be released in Spring or Summer 2023, possibly in September or May 2023.
