Why Disney May Not Be Distributing Free Birds on Disney Plus
So, why isn’t Free Birds available on Disney Plus? There are a few reasons:
- Licensing agreements: Disney has licensing agreements with various studios to distribute their movies on certain platforms. In this case, it appears that the licensing agreement with The Weinstein Company, the distributor of the movie, has not been renewed.
- Distribution strategies: Disney’s distribution strategy for Free Birds might not align with their overall content strategy. Disney Plus is a relatively new streaming service, and they might be choosing to prioritize their existing content libraries over newer, niche titles like Free Birds.
- Merchandising opportunities: Free Birds has a strong merchandise potential, with a vast array of toys, apparel, and other products bearing the movie’s iconic characters. Disney might be waiting for the right opportunity to monetize these assets through licensing agreements or other means.
Other Considerations
While Free Birds is not available on Disney Plus, it’s still worth exploring the various other platforms mentioned above. Here are a few additional considerations:
- Free Birds is available on Amazon Prime Video: If you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you can stream Free Birds on the platform.
- Free Birds is available on Vudu: You can rent or buy Free Birds on Vudu, which might be a more affordable option if you prefer to own the movie outright.
- Free Birds is available on Google Play Movies & TV and iTunes: You can rent or buy Free Birds on these platforms, which might offer more flexibility in terms of ownership and consumption.

While Free Birds is not available on Disney Plus, it’s still worth considering other options for streaming or purchasing the movie. If you have an Amazon Prime subscription or other streaming services, Free Birds might be a great choice. Alternatively, you can try renting or buying the movie on platforms like Vudu or Google Play Movies & TV.
