Creating an Avatar in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is a powerful collaboration platform that allows users to create a virtual presence, which is known as an avatar. An avatar is a digital representation of yourself, used to communicate and interact with others in the platform. In this article, we will show you how to create an avatar in Microsoft Teams.
Step 1: Log in to Microsoft Teams
To start creating an avatar, you first need to log in to your Microsoft Teams account. You can log in from any Microsoft 365 app, including Outlook, SharePoint, or OneDrive.
Creating an Avatar
- Click on the Link button in the top right corner of the screen.
- This will take you to the Teams avatar creation page.
- You can also find the Teams avatar creation button in the navigation menu at the top of the screen.
Step 2: Choose Your Avatar Image
Once you are on the avatar creation page, you will see a Choose Avatar Image button. Click on this button to upload a new image or use an existing one.
- You can choose from various avatar image options, including:
- Images from your own device
- Microsoft Office templates
- Microsoft Teams official avatar images
- Make sure to select an image that is clear and sharp, with a high contrast between the subject and the background.
Avatar Size and Aspect Ratio
- Avatar Size: The default avatar size is 384 x 384 pixels. You can adjust the size by dragging the Slide Pad (the small icon at the top right corner of the screen).
- Aspect Ratio: The avatar will automatically adjust to fit within the 1820 x 1820 pixel area. You can lock the aspect ratio by clicking on the Lock button.
Step 3: Add Your Name and Initials
Once you have chosen your avatar image and adjusted the size and aspect ratio, you can add your name and initials.
- Click on the Text icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Type in your name and add your initials by clicking on the + button.
- You can also delete any existing text by clicking on the Remove button.
Customizing Your Avatar
- You can add a background image by clicking on the Background icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Choose from a variety of background images, including Microsoft Teams official backgrounds.
- Background Image Size: The default background image size is 4320 x 2160 pixels. You can adjust the size by dragging the Slide Pad.
Step 4: Share Your Avatar
Once you have customized your avatar, you can share it with others by clicking on the Share button.

- You can also tag other users in your avatar by clicking on the Tag button.
