Snapchat History: A Brief Background
Snapchat was first introduced in 2011 by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown while they were students at Stanford University. The app was initially called "Picaboo," but was later renamed to Snapchat, inspired by the words "snap" and "choup," a mix of the words "snapshot" and "choo," which was a play on the Japanese brand Sony. Snapchat quickly gained popularity among college students and young adults, thanks to its ephemeral nature and creative features.

In 2013, Snapchat introduced its streak feature, which allowed users to create a string of connected snaps. The streak could be customized with any snap, and users could only break it by deleting their snap. The streak feature was a huge success, and it quickly became a staple of Snapchat’s interface.
