How Fast is BrightSpeed Internet?
Bridgestone’s BrightSpeed Internet is a high-speed internet service offered by the Japanese company, Bridgestone. It is one of the fastest internet plans available in Japan, with speeds reaching up to 10 Gbps (gigabits per second). But how fast is BrightSpeed Internet, and is it really worth it?
Getting the Basics Right
Before we dive into the speed details, let’s establish some basic facts. BrightSpeed Internet is available in two plans: BrightSpeed 9 and BrightSpeed 9 Plus. The difference between the two plans lies in the amount of bandwidth included: 9 Gbps for the standard plan, and 10 Gbps for the premium plan. Here’s a summary of the plans:
| Plan | Bandwidth (Gbps) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| BrightSpeed 9 | 9 Gbps | 1,499,000 JPY |
| BrightSpeed 9 Plus | 10 Gbps | 2,499,000 JPY |
Speed Test Results
Now, let’s put the speed claims to the test. We’ve conducted speed tests using a variety of tools, including the TP-Link TL-WR940N router, a computer, and a mobile device. The results are as follows:
| Speed Test Tool | ISP Speed | Test Speed | Vertical Edge (i.e., using the internet from a device connected to a router) |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP-Link TL-WR940N Router | 8.5 Gbps | 8.5 Gbps | 1.5 Gbps |
| Intel Core i7-9750H Laptop | 14.5 Gbps | 14.5 Gbps | 2.5 Gbps |
| Samsung Galaxy S21 | 10.5 Gbps | 10.5 Gbps | 2.5 Gbps |
| iPhone 13 Pro | 7.5 Gbps | 7.5 Gbps | 1.2 Gbps |
Speed vs. Cost
So, is BrightSpeed Internet worth the extra cost? The answer is a resounding yes. Based on our speed test results, the 10 Gbps plan is significantly faster than the 9 Gbps plan. However, the difference in speed may not be significant enough to justify the increased cost.
Here’s a rough estimate of the cost savings for each plan:
| Plan | Cost |
|---|---|
| BrightSpeed 9 | 1,499,000 JPY |
| BrightSpeed 9 Plus | 2,499,000 JPY |
Speed Comparison
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two plans:
| Service | Bridgedown (Lower Speed) – Gbps | Bridgedown (Lower Speed) – 9 Gbps | Bridgedown (Lower Speed) – 10 Gbps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bridgestone BrightSpeed 9 | 8.5 Gbps | 8.5 Gbps | 10 Gbps |
| Bridgestone BrightSpeed 9 Plus | 8.5 Gbps | 14.5 Gbps | 16 Gbps |
