How to Add GIFs to Instagram
Step 1: Open Instagram and Switch to Giphy Mode
To add GIFs to your Instagram posts, you first need to switch to Giphy mode. Here’s how:
- Open Instagram and navigate to your profile.
- Tap on the three horizontal lines (⋮) in the top left corner of the screen.
- Tap on "Settings" (gear icon).
- Scroll down and tap on "Giphy" (icon of a camera).
- Toggle "Giphy" to "On".
Step 2: Open the Giphy App
Now that you’re in Giphy mode, you can start searching for GIFs. Here’s how:
- Tap on the "+" icon (plus sign) in the top right corner of the screen.
- Tap on "Search" (blue search bar).
- Type in the name of the GIF you want to add.
- Browse through the results and select the GIF you want to use.
Step 3: Add GIF to Your Post
Once you’ve found the GIF you want to use, you can add it to your post. Here’s how:
- Tap on the "Add to Post" button (three dots).
- Select "Image" or "Video" (dependent on the type of GIF).
- Choose the GIF you want to add.
- Crop or resize the GIF as needed.
- Add any text or stickers to the GIF if desired.
- Tap "Add" to complete the post.
Step 4: Add a Caption and Tags
You can also add a caption and tags to your GIF. Here’s how:
- Tap on the text field at the top of the screen.
- Type in your caption.
- Tap on the "Add tag" button (paper clip icon).
- Type in the name of the person or group you want to tag.
- Select "Add tag" to complete the caption.
- You can also add multiple tags by repeating the process.
Step 5: Preview Your Post
Before posting, make sure to preview your post by tapping the "Share" button (box with an arrow).
GIF Size Options
GIFs can be resized in Instagram. You can choose from the following size options:
- Thumb (square, 320×320 pixels)
- Web (square, 1280×720 pixels)
- Pulse (square, 640×480 pixels)
GIF Formats
GIFs are a bit tricky to work with in Instagram. You can only upload GIFs that are less than 100MB in size. You can also upload GIFs in various formats, such as:
- GIF (animated GIF)
- GIF 8-bit (static GIF)
- GIF 16×16 (static GIF)
Blocking GIFs
Unfortunately, Instagram has a feature called "Blocking" that allows you to save GIFs to your phone or computer. To use this feature:
- Find the GIF you want to save.
- Tap on the three dots (⋮) next to the GIF.
- Select "Save to phone" or "Save to computer".
- Follow the prompts to save the GIF.
Animated GIFs vs. Live Reactions
Instagram also has an option to use Animated GIFs or Live Reactions. Animated GIFs are like regular GIFs, but they’re animated. Live Reactions, on the other hand, are live video reactions that you can record and share with your followers. To use Animated GIFs or Live Reactions, tap on the three dots next to the GIF and select "Convert to GIF" or "Save as Live Reactions".
