Is Wish Connected to Other Disney Movies?
Introduction
Wish is a 2021 American fantasy adventure film directed by Marc Webb and written by Adam Shankman. The movie is loosely based on the 1997 film Enchanted, which was itself based on the 1997 Broadway musical of the same name. In this article, we will explore whether Wish is connected to other Disney movies.
The Connection to Enchanted
The Shared Plot
One of the most notable connections between Wish and other Disney movies is its shared plot. Both Enchanted and Wish take place in a fantasy world where humans and magical creatures coexist. The main characters, a princess named Giselle and a superhero named Rapunzel, embark on a journey to find a way to return home. Along the way, they must navigate the complexities of their respective worlds and the challenges of their respective heroines.
Shared Themes and Elements
- Universal Themes: Both Enchanted and Wish explore universal themes such as love, friendship, and the power of believing in oneself. These themes are woven throughout the stories and characters, making them relatable to audiences of all ages.
- Magical Worlds: Both films take place in magical worlds, with Enchanted set in a fantasy kingdom and Wish set in a parallel world. These worlds offer a unique and fantastical backdrop for the story.
- Heroine Archetypes: Both Enchanted and Wish feature a strong heroine who must navigate the challenges of her world and find a way to return home. Giselle and Rapunzel are both strong, independent women who embody these archetypes.
The Connection to the ABCA Films
The Disney-France Connection
In addition to the connection to Enchanted, Wish is also connected to the Disney-France franchise. Enchanted was released in conjunction with the ABC (Adventure, Business, Comedy, Drama, Entry, and Acquiring) film series, which was a global marketing campaign for the film. The movies were released in the UK and US on the same day and shared a common promotional campaign.
The Connection to the Lucasfilm Films
Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Isle of Dogs
In 2015, Wish was included in the Lucasfilm franchise’s re-releases of the original Star Wars films. The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi were both re-released in the UK and US, with Wish included in the same box set as The Force Awakens. Isle of Dogs, the 2018 film set in the Star Wars universe, also included Wish in its re-release.
The Connection to the Illumination Movies
Despicable Me and The Boss Baby
The Illumination Movies, known for their lighthearted and family-friendly films, have also connected to Wish. Despicable Me and The Boss Baby were both released in the UK and US around the same time as Wish, and shared a common promotional campaign. Isle of Dogs also included Wish in its re-release.
The Final Connection
Encanto and Over the Moon
Finally, Wish is connected to Encanto, the Disney animated film released in 2021. Encanto takes place in a magical kingdom where magical powers are a part of everyday life. Wish is set in a parallel world where humans and magical creatures coexist. Over the Moon, the 2020 Disney animated film, also features a similar blend of fantasy and adventure.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Wish is connected to other Disney movies through its shared plot, universal themes, magical worlds, and heroine archetypes. The Disney-France franchise, Lucasfilm films, Illumination Movies, and Encanto all share a common thread with Wish. Whether you’re a fan of Enchanted, Wish, or one of these other Disney movies, there’s a common ground between the films.
