Is John Wick 4 Going to Be on Netflix?

The John Wick franchise has been a massive success for Lionsgate, with the first film grossing over $88 million worldwide on its opening weekend. The franchise has since expanded to include three sequels, with the third installment, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, receiving widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. However, the question on everyone’s mind is: will John Wick 4 be released on Netflix?

The Current Status of John Wick 4

As of now, there is no official confirmation from the studios or the cast about the release of John Wick 4 on Netflix. However, there are some hints and clues that suggest the possibility of a Netflix release.

• Lionsgate’s Statement: In a recent interview, Lionsgate’s CEO, Jon Feliciano, mentioned that the studio is "open to" releasing John Wick 4 on Netflix, but only if the film meets certain criteria. This statement is non-committal and does not provide any concrete information about the release.
• Cast’s Statements: The cast of John Wick, including Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick, have expressed their desire to continue the franchise on Netflix, but only if the film is well-received by audiences. Keanu Reeves has stated that he would be open to releasing John Wick 4 on Netflix, but only if the film is "a great story".
• Netflix’s Interest: Netflix has been actively courting the John Wick franchise, with a reported deal to acquire the rights to the series. However, there is no official confirmation about the release of John Wick 4 on Netflix.

The Possibility of a Netflix Release

While there is no concrete evidence to confirm a Netflix release, there are some reasons to believe that the franchise could be released on the platform.

• Netflix’s Acquisition of Lionsgate: In 2019, Netflix acquired Lionsgate for $3.8 billion, giving the company access to a vast library of content, including the John Wick franchise. This acquisition could potentially lead to the release of John Wick 4 on Netflix.
• Netflix’s Focus on Franchise Releases: Netflix has been focusing on releasing franchise films, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars saga. This focus on franchise releases could lead to the release of John Wick 4 on Netflix.
• The John Wick Franchise’s Global Reach: The John Wick franchise has a global following, with fans in over 100 countries. This global reach could make it an attractive option for Netflix to release the film on the platform.

The Challenges of a Netflix Release

While there are some reasons to believe that a Netflix release could happen, there are also some challenges to consider.

• Competition from Other Streaming Services: The streaming market is highly competitive, with other services like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+ vying for attention. This competition could make it difficult for Netflix to release John Wick 4 on the platform.
• The Cost of Production: Producing a John Wick film is a significant undertaking, with a reported budget of over $100 million. This cost could be a barrier to releasing the film on Netflix.
• The Rights to the Franchise: The rights to the John Wick franchise are currently owned by Lionsgate, which could potentially limit Netflix’s ability to release the film on the platform.

Conclusion

While there is no official confirmation about the release of John Wick 4 on Netflix, there are some reasons to believe that the franchise could be released on the platform. The acquisition of Lionsgate by Netflix, the focus on franchise releases, and the global reach of the John Wick franchise all suggest that a Netflix release could happen. However, the challenges of a Netflix release, including competition from other streaming services and the cost of production, could make it difficult to release the film on the platform.
