Destination Cuba…People To People
Feb 21-Mar 1, 2014
Limited to 5 Adventurers 2 spots open
Join Laurie Excell for an Excellent Photo Adventure south of the border in Cuba. Think vintage cars, wonder people with faces full of life and character, grand architecture that is both magnificent and yet crumbling from lack of provisions and money for upkeep. And yet, I have never felt safer and more welcome than I did by the wonderful people of Cuba. We visit Havana and have many opportunities to interact with the locals, tour churches and grand old buildings while learning about the history behind their grandeur. It’s truly a place where time has stood still for over fifty years.
I am thrilled to share an adventure that takes us where few Americans have been and we will do it safely and legally. Our intrepid guide, Steve, has taken care of all the Visas, permits and documents that are needed to visit on a cultural exchange.
We will base out of Havana, a city rich with culture, with a side trip to Vinales, the tobacco growing region. Our days in Havana will be spent mostly on foot exploring the nooks and crannies of the wonderful city of Havana, immersing ourselves in the daily rhythm of the city. Steve and I have some special locations up our sleeves to get you into parts of the city that are not as well known. We stay at quality lodging in the heart of Havana the first three nights and then check out and, in our rented van, head to Vinales in the Pinar del Rio Province for a couple of nights to explore tobacco plantations, the mogotes (giant rocky islands covered in growth that spring up from the valley floor) and the rural side of Cuba. Our final 2 nights will be spent back in Havana at a designer boutique overlooking the Malecon.
Cost of Adventure: $5450.00 (Single Occupancy)
Included in the cost adventure:
Flight to and from Havana, Cuba via Tampa, FL, all transportation within Cuba, VISA and entry fees and documents, lodging (single occupancy), expert guide with extensive knowledge of Cuba, both the city and it’s politics, and my personal instruction.
Not included in the cost of the adventure:
Transportation to Tampa, FL from your home base, first night lodging in Tampa for those who arrive a day early, meals, incidentals, tips, etc.
*Note: A valid passport is needed for this adventure. We can easily walk upwards of 6-8 miles a day as we wander the city ending the day exhausted. A degree of fitness is in order to handle the long days and distances covered.
A deposit of 50% is required to hold your spot with the balance due 90 days prior to the adventure (unless otherwise specified in the adventure descriptions). Within the 90 day time period no refund will be issued unless your spot can be filled at which point a refund less the non-refundable deposit of $500.00 will be issued. Life happens, best laid plans go awry. I strongly recommend trip insurance!
I have used Travel Insured and found them to be good to work with. www.travelinsured.com 1-800-243-2440
