You were wild once.  Don’t let them tame you.

Story behind the image…

On my recent trip to Alaska to photograph Coastal Brown Bears, we had one down right huge boar who was passing through the area and was definitely not habituated like the resident bears.  When he saw (or smelled us) he would stand up to get a better look.  He would do this several times and once he decided we were not other bears, he would take off into the trees.  We never did close enough to him to get a good frame filling image but, I really like this photograph where he is smaller in the frame and it shows some of the environment as well.  The water in the foreground leads the viewer to the bear and the lush greens of the background show off the dense and lush foiliage of their spring habitat.  When bears stand up, you have to be ready as it’s such a fleeting moment.  Nikon D4, AF-S 500mm f4 VR  ISO 100 f5.6 @ 1/750 sec.
