Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.  The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Story behind the image…

Those of you who follow me on Facebook know that I just returned from a road trip to pick up my new truck.  It was a quick trip of 5 days, 2316 miles, 9 states and a great time with my friend Mimi.  One of our quick stops along the way was at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, the location known as Custer’s Last Stand.  I was drawn to the cemetary with it’s row after row of headstones, buried not far frmo where they fell.  Some had names and dates of their birth and death, some even gave a little more info with a short comment but, more of them were simply “unknown soldier” and the date of their death.  The shadow and light was hard so, I worked with a side/back lit angle to emphasize the shadows and to highlight the tops of the headstones.  Nikon D4, AF-S 24-120mm f4 VR @ 92mm  I processed the RAW file using Nikon Capture NX2 and then finished the image in Photoshop CS6 using NIK COlor Efex Pro 4 (Tonal Cpntrast to bump up the detail and contrast).  I then darkened the image slightly using a curves adjustment layer and finished up with a trip to Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert to B&W.  I lowered the B&W layers opacity to bring out a hint of color and painted the flag in to show off the red, white and blue!

Happy 4th of July Everyone!
