Story behind the image…

Every winter some 35,000 + Snow Geese and 9000 + Sandhill Cranes migrate to Bosque del Apache, NM for the winter months.  After the morning flyout when the birds leave the safety of their water roost and head to the fields to eat all day.  I liked the leading lines of the corn stalks taking you right to the crane.  I waited until the bird was coming straight towards me down the row…click…it stepped through to another row and was gone.

Image captured with Nikon D3S, AF-S 600mm f4 VR with TC-17E II.  ISO 200 f8 (shallow depth of field to make the Sandhill Crane stand out against the soft hues of corn) 1/250 sec
