Story behind the image…

Evening was fast approaching on our final safari in Kenya when we came across a lioness with her cub and a fresh wildebeast kill.  While mom caught her breath, her cub proceeded to jump on her, chew her ears and do everything it could think of to get mom to play.  We enjoyed our last hours with mom and cub all to ourselves.  It was a very special ending to a great African Safari.  The lack of light is what finally had us put our cameras away and head back to camp.

With the movement of the cub, I didn’t want too slow of a shutter speed so, I increased my ISO to 800 to reach a shutter speed of 1/250 which would stop most action and f6.7 provided a little depth of field to maintain sharpness on both cats.  Nikon D4, AF-S 500mm f4 VR
