The mountains are calling and I  must go.

Story behind the image…

This is the view to the east from my cabin at the lodge in Alaska that I visit each year.  Early one June morning as I stepped from my cabin I looked up to see this beautiful scene spread out before me with the rising sun touching the tips of the distant mountains and the clouds stacked up above them with a pending storm brewing.  I quickly ducked back into my cabin, grabbed my D3x with AF-S 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 VR lens (which I keep handy for just such moments) and zoomed to 92mm to get this composition.  Being in the land of the midnight sun in the summer months provided plenty of light so that I could keep my ISO down to 200 set my aperture to f11 and still have 1/350 of a sec which is plenty fast enough to hand hold.  The sun had not yet reached the foreground hills leaving them to fade to dark providing a nice base from which the distant mountains rose.
