Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Story behind the image…

On a visit to Pearl Harbor several years ago we were paying our respects at the USS Arizona Memorial when an officer walked up, pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of his jacket and began a silent prayer.  It was such a powerful moment with his head bent over the paper, his crisp, white uniform and the light bouncing off the white marble like a giant soft box creating an almost unearthly glow.  I slipped up closer and clicked off a few frames then stepped back and left him to his silent prayers.  ISO 200 f8 @ 1/45 sec.  I chose my exposure based on 200 being the lowest ISO on the D700, f8 providing me enough depth of field for the scene and the resulting 1/45 sec fast enough to comfortably hand-hold.  Nikon D700 with AF-S 14-24mm 2.8 @ 19mm.
