If you can lay down at night, knowing in your heart that you made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

  1. Thanks for sharing, and inspiring, with such beautiful work!

Hi Laurie, interesting image, but I’m not sure what we’re looking at in the sky. Rain?

    • Hi Isamu, It’s star trails. The clouds are almost overtaking them.

      • Isamu Maruhashi says:

Oh, okay. Star trails was my first thought, but then you can see the clouds and I thought they extended to the top of the frame.
I think it’s a great image and makes one (at least me) understand that conditions don’t have to be optimal to get a great image.

      • Yes, the clouds were moving in. I only got 32 minutes on this one before they became too much!
It was 8- 4 minute exposures stacked using Dr Brown’s Services…Stac-A-Matic.
I sometimes do 4 minute exposures without in camera noise reduction and sometime will do a 1 1/2 hour + exposure and use in camera noise reduction (when I have power and my AC adapter).

        Thanks for the explanation, Laurie!

      • My pleasure.

Oh one more question (actually a few more) since I’ve been playing with star trails: Did you stack a bunch of images or just take one long exposure?

Whichever case, could you share your settings?
