Finishing Touches

At DLWS we teach getting it right in the camera and then finishing our images in the digital darkroom.  So, when we stopped at Quechee Gorge in Vermont last week, I had the camera set correctly and then finished it in the digital darkroom.  I removed the color cast in Nikon Capture NX2 and then added my own creative touches in Photoshop using NIK Color Efex Pro 3.0 Tonal Contrast and Glamour Glow.

As Captured….

Finished…

While the difference is not radical, it’s the subtle finishing touches that add the personal touch to our images.

DLWS Vermont Day 3

It’s amazing how the time flies when your having fun and this week has been a blast!  We spent our last morning shoot at Jenne Farm… one of the most lovely spots in all of Vermont.  Having photographed Jenne Farm on numerous occasions I wanted to come back with something different than what I already had so out camet eh infrared camera…

And then I went to work on a pano…

We headed to Wookstock for our evening shoot.  Talk about classic Americana.  Once again, I was in the mood for something different so I prowled the alleyways in search of a photograph and found this one…

As DLWS #30 comes to a close I have new images in my files and new friends from a great group of people whose enthusiasm helps to drive me to keep pushing the envelope.

DLWS Vermont Day 2

Day two of DLWS Vermont dawned with a distinct nip in the air.  This is a good thing as the cold stimulates the colors to keep turning.  We began the day at the Summer Home of Calvin Coolidge where the photo opps abounded.  There was color eveywhere you turned…

The old barns with it’s great charachter is a big draw and when the sun rose and backlit the trees a panorama felt right….

As we were leaving we met a wonderful gentleman who lovingly cared for the grounds and he graciously posed for a photograph…

The afternoon found us back at Middleton Springs where we photographed the classic Vermont shot with the steeple peaking through the fall color followed by a visit to the town cemetery.  As I was headed to the cemetery I saw the  church steeple reflected in the side of Mobe Dick (the staff van)…

The cemetery dates back to the late 1700’s…

DLWS Vermont Day 1

We began our day with the hoped for fog at Sleepy Hollow…

Throughout High Noon we heard the rain and hail pounding the roof but, when we emerged to head out to Weston for our afternoon shoot the weather had cleared.  Weston is home to some great fudge and a really cool grist mill.  I have been fasinated by the waterfall that flows over the dam and wanted to do something a bit different this trip so I shot a three image pano and finished it with NIK filters.

I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings!
